Pond Pumps Are a Vital Part of Your Water Garden

Perhaps the most important purchase when constructing a new back yard pond is choosing between the many different pond pumps available for personal ponds, water gardens and fish shoals. There are literally dozens upon dozens of different pumps to choose from that all have varying levels of utility depending on the size and type of pond that you are trying to build. Do you want to have a waterfall in your pond? There’s a pump for that. Do you want fish? One for that, too. Well, many, many pumps for that. Are you simply looking for a relaxing pool of water with some attractive aquatic plants? Even better.

When it comes down to choosing between the different pond pumps there are a few quick things to consider that will make the decision much easier. Do you want a waterfall? If so you need to get a pump with a higher pressure rate. How big is your pond? You need to cycle through all of the water in your pond every few hours, so the bigger the pond the more powerful the pump. How far does the water have to travel through tubes to reach the pond? The longer the distance, the stronger the pump. In general it is always wise to choose one degree more powerful than you calculate you will need, just in case.

Don’t forget that your pump is going to be working all day, every day, until you move out or tear down that pond. That can be a lot of electricity, so make sure that you choose the most energy efficient pump possible. It is also important to remember to avoid choosing pumps that are designed for indoor use in order to be safe and guarantee that your pump will be working for a long time. If the pump fails for even a short while it can endanger the safety of your fish and plants, so durability is key.
